SF Tips
Don’t let the news fool ya. San Francisco is great. Here are some things we love to do :)
1. Golden Gate Park
Go to the De Young museum, check out a herd of bison, enjoy the Botanical Garden or the Japanese Garden. You could even learn to fly fish. Golden Gate Park is truly its own world. Get lost in it.
2. SFMoMA
Go to the Agnes Martin room. That’s where Thomas proposed. But really, the entire museum plays host to many amazing works of art. And if you’re into hamburgers, go around the corner to Hamburguesa Bar after for a beer in an icy mug and a yummy burger.
3. The Ferry Building
Lots of fun goods to buy, including Heath Ceramics, and they’ve updated and upgraded most of the restaurants. Some really awesome chefs are doing really great work there. Check out Lunette for some next level Cambodian food.
4. Play Mahjong
Mahjong is really taking over this city. Chinese Mahjong, not American. Go to Mr. Mahjong’s and get some games in. There are beginners tables! If you’ve never played it’s a great time to learn.
5. Hike the Headlands
25 minutes outside of the city, and where our venue is, are a whole host of hikes that are next level. Enjoy the California coast and the best views the Bay Area has to offer.
6. Richmond Farmer’s Market
Check out the wonderful farm fresh produce. Try some cheese. Bored of farmers? Venture out into Richmond for some char siu bao from Lung Fung Bakery or a croissant from Ariscault.
7. Find the Sun
It’s always sunny in the Mission. I (Thomas) can attest. I used to live there. Find a sunny spot in Dolores and enjoy one of the best views of the city, period. Shop Valencia street. If you’re into kitchen knives go to Bernal Cutlery. Then grab food — Guamanian at Prubechu, a mission style burrito at El Buen Sabor, a glass of wine at Horsies, a delicious coffee at Sightglass or Hedge (if you’re feeling fancy).
8. Chinatown & North Beach
One unique thing about SF is that Chinatown and North Beach (aka our Little Italy) are adjacent neighborhoods. Walk through Chinatown. Grab some trinkets. Maybe a bowl of soup from Hon’s Wun-Tun House. Then hit Columbus and walk by Cafe Zoetrope, stop into City Lights Books, grab a drink at Vesuvio, or a sandwich at Molinari’s Delicatessen.
We know we suggested a lot of food, but you’re on vacation?
